Multiple and non-recessive resistance to Bt proteins in a Cry2Ab2-resistant population of Helicoverpa zea

چکیده

Transgenic corn and cotton expressing Cry and/or Vip3Aa proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) have been planted for managing lepidopteran coleopteran insect pests more than two decades in the U.S. Evolution of resistance to these Bt is a major threat continued efficacy technology. Understanding patterns cross-resistance dominance target insects essential management pest control. The bollworm, also called earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie), pyramided crops In this study, we evaluated responses Cry2Ab2-resistant (RR), susceptible (SS), heterozygous (RS) strains H. Cry1Ac, Cry1A.105, Cry2Ab2 Vip3Aa39 using diet-overlay bioassays. possessed high levels Cry1Ac but were very Vip3Aa. Cry1 Cry2 RR varied incompletely recessive completely dominant depending on protein concentration. These data suggest that possess multiple non-recessive Cry1/Cry2 proteins. results significant implications understanding field-evolved fields should contribute developing effective strategies control zea.

A seed mixture increases dominance of resistance to Bt cotton in Helicoverpa zea

Widely grown transgenic crops producing insecticidal proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) can benefit agriculture, but adaptation by pests threatens their continued success. Refuges of host plants that do not make Bt toxins can promote survival of susceptible insects and delay evolution of resistance, particularly if resistance is inherited as a recessive trait. However, data have been lac...

Fitness costs associated with Cry1Ac-resistant Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae): a factor countering selection for resistance to Bt cotton?

The heritability, stability, and fitness costs in a Cry1Ac-resistant Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) colony (AR) were measured in the laboratory. In response to selection, heritability values for AR increased in generations 4-7 and decreased in generations 11-19. AR had significantly increased pupal mortality, a male-biased sex ratio, and lower mating success compared with the...

Inhibition of Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Growth by Transgenic Corn Expressing Bt Toxins and Development of Resistance to Cry1Ab.

Transgenic corn, Zea mays L., that expresses the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin Cry1Ab is only moderately toxic to Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) and has been planted commercially since 1996. Growth and development of H. zea was monitored to determine potential changes in susceptibility to this toxin over time. Small plots of corn hybrids expressing Cry1F, Cry1F × Cry1Ab, Cry1Ab × Cry3Bb1, Cry1A.1...

Effect of MON810 Bt field corn on Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) cannibalism and its implications to resistance development.

Pairs of Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) larvae reared on diet-incorporated MON810 transgenic leaf tissue of field corn (Zea mays L.) were observed in the laboratory to characterize effects of sublethal levels of Bacillus thuringiensis variety kurstaki (Bt) Cry1Ab endotoxins on cannibalistic behavior and mortality. Feeding on sublethal levels of Bt corn reduced the frequency of cannibalistic behaviors...
